Simple Styling Tips from the Bari J. Abode

Things are always in flux around here, so I thought I'd pop by every once and awhile and show you what's up! Hopefully there are a few ideas you can take away for your home. Here are a few bits and pieces from around the Bari J. Abode from January!

This photo shows a lot of pillow and pattern play with the rug and the footstool. I've also used tons of plants as a fun backdrop.

Below is one of my still life paintings pictured on the green buffet with cut orchids. I didn't realize that you can make orchids last up to three weeks in a vase by cutting the stem every other day on a diagonal and changing the water. You also water the actual flowers by giving them a quick shower. They were five dollars a stem but if you can make them last the full three weeks they are totally worth it.

I'll call it like it is with the master bath... It's not my fav room in the house. The cabinets are about to get a fresh coat of white paint and those mirrors will be removed and replaced with framed mirrors. The faucets are also about to get a quick change out as well. But in the meantime, I thought I'd at least play with some color here. Instead of the usual bath mat situation, I replaced them with a pink runner from Wayfair. It picks up on the pink in the painting. I'm sort of loving the look.

Below is a little "shelfie" moment. I gave a whole bunch of my favorite tips for styling shelves over here on Instagram. But one more would be to use things like photo and picture frames as backgrounds. Here I used fabric in an embroidery hoop to add a little interest and dimension.

Here in the breakfast nook, I added a quilted runner to the tabletop for added texture. And I also brought in a chair from World Market to put on the end. Mixing and matching is my favorite.

I'll be continuing to post little home updates with hints and tips for styling and decor. Please let me know if there's anything you'd love to see or if you have any questions!
