Fall 2019 One Room Challenge - Week One

Drum roll... It's time for the One Room Challenge™, and I'm all in as a guest participant! Which also means Super Husband was forced to be all in. He's on the labor committee... lucky guy!

Bari J. One Room Challenge Fall 2019

What is the One Room Challenge™?

I'll use Creator and Owner, Linda Weinstein's words to describe it (a HUGE thank you to Linda for creating and organizing this event!):

"The One Room Challenge™ is a widely anticipated biannual event every April and October. Each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge, as Featured Designers, and transform a space. Every Wednesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over six weekly posts.

In addition to following along, everyone with a blog or Instagram account, is welcome to join the fun as a Guest Participant by linking their own room transformations up during the six weeks. Each Thursday, the internet and social media are flooded with interior design inspiration, ideas, and encouragement.

To date, more than 3,400 rooms have been transformed through the One Room Challenge™. The event, and many of the spaces, have been recognized and featured."

Added awesomeness: Better Homes and Gardens is the media partner for this event!

What Room Will be made over?

I will be making over our master bedroom this go round. You may remember last year when I made over our laundry room. Why did I chose the master bedroom? We've now been married for 25 years, and frankly, nothing in our room was something I specifically chose for it. The bed is a hand me down. It's lovely, but it's not "us". The dresser is an IKEA piece that just kind of ended up there. The end tables were ragamuffin tagalongs that also just ended up in the room. While it appeared well put together, it really has never felt like the sanctuary I wanted it to be. I'm super excited that soon it will be!

the before

Truth told, this is not what the room looks like now. I hand painted a mural behind the bed for a scene in my upcoming book (Bloom Wild, Abrams Books, March 2020) and the bedding is totally different. While I LOVE the mural, it's time for a change. And unfortunately, I can't show you the mural yet because it's in the book. It's actually somewhat epic. But you'll have to wait to see it, and I'm ready for something new. I'm totally fickle, what can I say?

The only thing that stays in this photo is the flooring. It's all going!

The plan – Epic Maximalist Hollywood Regency Style Master Suite

Ignore the Starwars and other chatchkies on top. This photo was taken in the shop. There's actually a burn stain on it, so Ryan from Modern Manor here in Phoenix is having the top and sides replaced with a white high lacquer. Yes, the bottom IS chrome!
