Often a shop will give us a reusable bag. Mine end up in my trunk for groceries and sometimes they go to Goodwill. I also have a stack of muslin bags my daughter left here. She was going to screenprint on them. I've been adding using random quilt blocks I have (UFOs!) and lining the bags to use for myself and for gifting. We can do the same thing to the ones we get from shops.
Here's how I did it.
- Cut 1/16" of bottom of the bag off using a rotary cutter.
- Applique your quilt block onto the bag front using a zig-zag stitch on your machine.
- Cut a lining 1/4" bigger all the way around than the bag itself.
- Sew the lining together leaving the top open and a 5" opening in the bottom of the lining.
- Sew the bottom of the bag back together.
- Place the lining and the bag right sides together, tucking the handles in on the right side of the bag.
- Sew around the top of the bag.
- Turn right side out, press and top stitch the top edge of the bag.
- Top stitch the opening at the bottom of the lining closed.

What a fun project this will be to make, and I already have all of the materials needed to begin. Thank you for the lovely inspiration.
