We are all avowed maximalists here, right? Yes. We love to mix and layer pattern and color. And... we do it with intention. Curated Maximalism, as I say always! We edit. We find the right balance. We curate. That is why I just gave my kitchen a make-UNDER.
To tell the truth, the kitchen was perfectly pretty just the way it was. But I felt the tile needed to be the star in the kitchen, and the wallpaper needed to shine in the butler's pantry and the breakfast nook.
So... I convinced the husband that it was time to take the wallpaper down, just in the kitchen. Which was a task he made me do pretty much by myself. And who can blame him? That guy had just put the shelves back up after cutting the thickness of them to 1.5" from 3" for me. A thing I also insisted needed to happen, and another story for another day.
But regardless, he took the shelves down for me once again, and I got to work.
Once I had the wallpaper removed and the walls repaired, I painted the walls in Aged White by Sherwin Williams. And then I painted a series of wispy flowers emerging from the tile. Then, much to the. chagrin of my husband, I no longer wanted two shelves up. I felt it needed to be open and airy. And besides, there wasn't too much on the top shelves anyways.
Here's what the kitchen looked like before. The wallpaper is fun, but the same paper is in the adjacent butler's pantry and the eating area. Also, as I mentioned, the tile simply needs it's place as the star attraction.
