When I was a child, my mom planted tulip bulbs each Fall in rows in front of the hedges. I grew up in Chicago where the weather can be quite dreary. One of the first signs that Spring was on the way was that mom's flowers would start to creep to the surface. It would be 55 degrees out and we'd throw off our jackets and play on the front lawn. These watercolor flowers remind me of wearing my hair in pig tails, grass turning green, the birds chirping and the anticipation of long lazy summer days in the not too distant future.
