Drum roll... It's time for the One Room Challenge™, and I'm all in as a guest participant! Which also means Super Husband was forced to be all in. He's on the labor committee... lucky guy!
I'll use Creator and Owner, Linda Weinstein's words to describe it (a HUGE thank you to Linda for creating and organizing this event!):
"The One Room Challenge™ is a widely anticipated biannual event every April and October. Each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge, as Featured Designers, and transform a space. Every Wednesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over six weekly posts.
In addition to following along, everyone with a blog or Instagram account, is welcome to join the fun as a Guest Participant by linking their own room transformations up during the six weeks. Each Thursday, the internet and social media are flooded with interior design inspiration, ideas, and encouragement.
To date, more than 3,400 rooms have been transformed through the One Room Challenge™. The event, and many of the spaces, have been recognized and featured."
Added awesomeness: Better Homes and Gardens is the media partner for this event!
I will be making over our master bedroom this go round. You may remember last year when I made over our laundry room. Why did I chose the master bedroom? We've now been married for 25 years, and frankly, nothing in our room was something I specifically chose for it. The bed is a hand me down. It's lovely, but it's not "us". The dresser is an IKEA piece that just kind of ended up there. The end tables were ragamuffin tagalongs that also just ended up in the room. While it appeared well put together, it really has never felt like the sanctuary I wanted it to be. I'm super excited that soon it will be!
Truth told, this is not what the room looks like now. I hand painted a mural behind the bed for a scene in my upcoming book (Bloom Wild, Abrams Books, March 2020) and the bedding is totally different. While I LOVE the mural, it's time for a change. And unfortunately, I can't show you the mural yet because it's in the book. It's actually somewhat epic. But you'll have to wait to see it, and I'm ready for something new. I'm totally fickle, what can I say?
The only thing that stays in this photo is the flooring. It's all going!
A few products are sponsored here, but naturally, 100% chosen by me. Joybird has provided the bed, and My Mitzi/Hudson Valley Lighting has provided the chandelier.
• Camille bed by Joybird in Royale Evergreen
• Colette Chandelier by My Mitzi/Hudson Valley Lighting in Aged Brass
• Large Babette Art by Willa Heart on Chairish
• Wallpaper designed by Bari J. to be available soon on BariJdesigns.com
• Fabric design by Bari J. for Art Gallery Fabrics - Bloomsbury collection (for curtains)
• Vintage chinoiserie for inspiration
• Leopard print pillows
1. Paint room white.
2. Have wallpaper printed and hung on ceiling.
3. Source wood for and build and lacquer floating night stands.
4. Build in outlets in nightstands with USB options.
5. Sew pillows.
6. Source white/cream textured bedding.
7. Sew curtains.
8. Find appropriate rug.
9. Source new dresser - I actually just found a vintage burl wood credenza that is being fixed up that will work perfectly (see below).
10. Paint art for wall next to bed.
11. Hang all art.
12. Re-hang televisions sans wires.
12. Replace ceiling fan with chandelier.
Ignore the Starwars and other chatchkies on top. This photo was taken in the shop. There's actually a burn stain on it, so Ryan from Modern Manor here in Phoenix is having the top and sides replaced with a white high lacquer. Yes, the bottom IS chrome!
If you stopped by through a link from the ORC or from social media, here's a little about me, and please don't forget to sign up for the newsletter to receive free art in the form of screensavers each month: I'm Bari. My business is Bari J. Designs. I'm an artist and designer. I'm known for my maximalist floral fabric designs for Art Gallery Fabrics. And you can also find my art on rugs from Loloi (found at Anthropologie and more), wallpaper, murals, phone cases, stationery and more! You can also buy my original pieces and prints on my website. I'm decor obsessed. In fact, March 2020 you'll be able to purchase my first decor book, Bloom Wild, published by Abrams Books. If you are looking for decor ideas that are artful, colorful and pattern filled look no further!
