Hey everyone! It's me, Melanie again. I'm here after a loooooong chain piecing session of making the Mod Tulip blocks. This one features lots of patchwork that looks very traditional, but we're gonna make it all fresh and new with our gorgeous fabrics.
If you are brand new to this quilt along and trying to catch up, you can find all the blocks in order here. Also, connect with everyone joining in over on IG here. I love chatting with all of you and seeing your blocks!
This time around we are making the Mod Tulip blocks. There's ten of them. Do not groan! This is fun! I didn't realize how much I would like this block before I made mine. When I designed it, I only knew I wanted it to look like a flower and be on point, but I have to say I'm kinda smitten. I'm certain it's the pink + gold!
I have to say that before I started making this quilt, I loved Bari's fabrics. Now, I love them even more. I'm so thrilled that all the collections are mixing together beautifully.
For my fabrics this week, I'm using (click the shops to be taken directly to the fabric):
Many prints from the Wild Bloom line - Hawthorne Threads, Bobbie Lou's, Fat Quarter Shop, Pink Castle Fabrics.
Budquette in Nightfall - Bobbie Lou's, Hawthorne Threads.
Ripples in River - Fat Quarter Shop, Hawthorne Threads.
Various Bari J low volumes - Pink Castle Fabrics, Bobbie Lou's, Hawthorne Threads, Fat
You can download your PDF pattern here. If you print it out, be sure you are printing in landscape format so that it prints properly.
I mentioned that we are making ten Mod Tulips. Each should measure 7.5".
A little more for beginners
If you need a little more help, I've made this video tutorial for you.
Tips this Week
- This is an easier block, but there's lots of pieces. Be sure to chain piece for a quicker finish. I discussed what that is in this video (at the 5:38 time).
- My blocks kept coming up just a smidgen bigger than 7.5", so I had to trim down. Be sure to leave 1/4" from the points so that you don't lose them.
- I made one block that I wasn't crazy about. It's the one that doesn't have a tonal included. I think the mix of florals and tonals made this block prettier to me.

I hope that you are enjoying where our quilt is headed. I've got my quilt growing on this design wall and I can't help but look at it every time I pass by. I'm loving it! I really hope you are loving your quilt too! Also, did I mention how much I love that gold Ripples fabric of Bari's (insert a lovingly sigh).
Hugs!
*Special thanks to my friend, Katie, for testing the Mod Tulip block pattern.
