Another warm welcome to Melanie! I hope you all are enjoying our quilt along! Be sure to post your photos on Instagram and tag both @barij and @southerncharmquilts as well as #barijquiltalong
Hello and Happy New Year! It's me, Melanie here and after all those holidays and get togethers and taking down the decorations and simply recouping it feels like every day is so full and exhausting right now, and for that reason I've got you something short and sweet to work on for the next two weeks to make up for all the running around you might have had to do back in December. Let's do it!
As a reminder if you need to do some catching up or are just jumping in for the first time, you can find a round up of everything we have done so far right here.
Be sure to make it to the bottom of this post. We've got another giveaway for you!
We are making two different patterns this week. If you are grumbling thinking that I just told you they would be easy, I promise I wasn't telling you any un-truths.
We will be making the Rectangle Stripe and two Nine Patch blocks as well.
Let's talk about the fabrics I'm using (click the shops to be taken directly to the fabric):
For my Nine Patch blocks I'm using:
- Henna Stripe in grey - Hawthorne Threads
- Corsage Charm in aqua - Fat Quarter Shop, Pink Castle Fabrics, Hawthorne Threads
- Microburst in beam - Bobbie Lou's Fabric
For my Rectangle Stripe I'm using:
- Cross and Stitch in raspberry - Fat Quarter Shop, Pink Castle Fabrics, Hawthorne Threads
- Summer Bouquet in pond - Bobbie Lou's Fabric, Hawthorne Threads, Pink Castle Fabrics, Fat Quarter Shop
Pattern #6 is the Nine Patch. You can download that PDF here. You will make two of these blocks.
Pattern #7 is the Rectangle Stripe. Download that PDF here. You will only make one of these blocks.
A little more for beginners
If you need a little bit more help than the PDF offers, please enjoy this video. I talk a little about starting to think about the Boho extras I'm going to want to add to my quilt, particularly when it comes to very simple "filler" blocks like the Rectangle Stripe.
I mention in this video the class I took to learn embroidery. You can find that here. A bit of embroidery is something you are going to see me adding to my quilt in the future.

How's your quilt growing? I'm loving mine. I'm also enjoying the pace. Every two weeks is feeling nice and easy. Nothing to rush, but I'm also not getting impatient.
I can't wait to see how your quilt is growing too!
