I cannot be more excited and proud to show you our Deco Dreams Primary Bathroom! I did this renovation as part of an event called The One Room Challenge for which I was a featured designer this Spring.

The design process

A quick look at before with after (I still can't believe it's the same space!):

 I wanted this room to have a somewhat art deco feel with the arches, but I'd like to talk about my process in general. This room is really all about the shapes and color.

• The arches really take center stage above the vanity, so I chose tiles with rounded shapes for the shower as well and then repeated arches with the mirrors and with the barely visible glass panel on the shower.
• The Hexagon tiles are a contrast to the round shapes but still read rounded.
• To contrast the curves, I did a linear vanity with fluted, vertical detailing. But then reversed the vertical lines with a horizontal line of the subway tile. For the layout of the subway tile, I went with an untraditional design. The tiles are 1/8" apart horizontally, but on the vertical, the line is 3/8" for added interest.
• I even chose a curved tub to continue the repetition of rounded shapes.
• And the lighting all again repeats round shapes. The chandelier in particular makes me smile with it's lines and circles!
• For color, I started with the orange, pink and white of the tiles. Then, to bring it all together, I used the fabric of the roman shade to pull the look together. I also added my own art on the wall to the right. The peonies have pinks and corals in them, and then I pulled a deep teal from the fabric and used that as the background. You also see a bit of green in the roman shades and that is repeated in the painting.
• The runner from Loloi is a rusty pink with a dusty pink in it as well pulling the color to the floor for added detail.
• I painted the entire ceiling a light shade of pink instead of leaving it white to bring pink throughout the space.

 Organizing the space

In reworking this space, I did lose some shelf space. Where my painting is, there used to be a nook. We closed it and gave that space to the other side of the wall where my studio had a matching nook. The studio nook is now a closet. Therefore, I needed to think about where things were going to live in this room. Ebay came to the rescue! From ebay sellers, I got drawer organizers, blanket bags, makeup organizers and baskets for the linen closet.

These cabinets were previously a grayish desert wash finish. We updated the hardware with gold pieces we had leftover from the kitchen renovation. They are from Schaub and Co. And we painted the cabinets Sherwin Williams Malted Milk.

Inside the cabinets we used loads of organizers from ebay.

Tying the primary bedroom to the en-suite

The primary bedroom was finished the last time I did a one room challenge. However, the room had little orange in it. I found a Karl Springer Style Bench on Facebook Marketplace and Calico Corners reupholstered it in Zeplin - Spice fabric. It turned out fabulously. And I feel like the spaces are now connected. Obviously, Ruthie is in agreement!

The One Room Challenge is in it's nineteenth season. It is a widely anticipated event every April and October (June this year!). Each round 20 design influencers are selected to take the challenge as featured designers and hundreds of guest designers join in as well. Each week, the designers document the process while sharing sources and inspiration.
